It’s that time of the year again… the days are getting longer, skies are getting brighter, and of course, the excuse to eat a ton of chocolate is fast approaching.
Aisles are filling with egg-shaped chocolates, and in celebration of that, we’re giving away a super bundle of Easter eggs for the whole family – chocolate eggs aren’t just for the little ones you know!
Why do we eat chocolate eggs at Easter?
Personally, we love the tradition of stuffing our faces with chocolate eggs one day a year, but why do we actually do it?
Easter Eggs date back centuries, they were adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter. Eggs represent new life and rebirth, the hard shell is thought to symbolise Jesus’ tomb and the baby chick inside is Jesus.
Decorating eggs for Easter is a tradition that dates back to at least the 13th century. During lent, eggs were traditionally a forbidden food for Christians. To mark the end of the fasting period, Christians would paint and decorate them, and then eat them on Easter Sunday as a celebration.
For whatever reason you choose to eat these yummy chocolate eggs, we’ve got you covered!
Here’s a random egg fact for you:
Did you know, the largest Easter Egg ever made was over 25 feet tall, weighed over 8,000 pounds and was built out of chocolate and marshmallow and supported by an internal steel frame. The Easter eggs that we’re giving away won’t be that big unfortunately, but we can assure you they will be just as yummy.
