The humidity and mugginess that comes with the warm weather isn’t pleasant and as a result we can end up looking like a hot mess – quite literally. From smudged mascara to overdoing it with the foundation, we’ve all been there before and we’ve decided to put some tips together to help you with your summer makeup woes.

Skin
Prolong the wear of your makeup with an ultra-lightweight primer that offers a high SPF. We love the NARS Smooth & Protect Primer (RRP £28) that not only prepares your skin for makeup, but also protects it from the sun’s harmful rays with an SPF of 50.

Vitamin D is needed for the normal growth and development of our bones and teeth and it improves our resistance against certain diseases. As the vitamin is produced by the sun why not free your skin from the foundation this summer? While the thought of baring your skin may be daunting, you won’t have to worry about any foundation sliding down your face and remember to add some sun cream! Or, if you can’t bear the idea of going out ‘naked’ look for a lightweight foundation and use it sparingly.

Eyes
Whether you’re having a staycation this year, are going abroad or plan to take the kids swimming during the summer holiday, investing in a waterproof mascara is a no brainer especially if you want  to avoid looking like a panda. As humidity, tears or sweat will make mascara come off; you need to buy mascara that’s water resistant. We like the Extra Length Waterproof Mascara by No7 (RRP £13) and Clinque High Impact Waterproof Mascara (RRP £19).

In addition, when it comes to lining your eyes avoid using a kohl pencil as it can smudge and slide off easily; we recommend that you use a liquid liner instead.

Lips
From lip glosses to lipsticks, add a pop of colour to your look this summer with a vibrant lip! We love the Nars Audacious Lipstick in Angela (RRP £25) and Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupte Shine Lipstick in Rogue in Danger (RRP £28).
