With lockdown restrictions beginning to ease, Melissa & Doug commissioned a new study of parents and children, to reveal how the last 12 months have impacted family life.
Juggling home schooling, work and household chores may have tested the mettle of parents everywhere, but half of mums and dads believe the lockdowns have made them better parents.
Melissa & Doug’s research also found that pre-pandemic, weekday life was too busy for two in five families (38%) to enjoy quality time together.
But with more unstructured time in lockdown, parents spent 50% more time playing with their children.
Many families have benefitted from increased unstructured time – 34% of parents say it’s improved their bond with their child, while 36% now have a greater understanding of their child’s personality and needs.
Nearly half of children say having more play time was the best thing about the lockdowns, as simpler family pastimes like baking and crafting made a resurgence.
