This week we’ve been bringing you a whole lot of fun with the Smoby takeover. A favourite for outdoor toys and playhouses, Smoby has been a top pick with families for generations!
As part of the takeover, we’ve been telling you about all the latest and greatest Smoby toys. You can read more about them here. But if you’d like a few more ideas on activities you and your family can enjoy in the garden, you’ve come to the right page! Keep reading for some inspiration…
Gardening
Gardening is a great activity that can be enjoyed by all ages! Gardening not only teaches children about plants and vegetables, but it’s also a great opportunity to teach them about work and patience, as well as helping them understand about life cycles and where food comes from. Don’t worry if you don’t have a large outdoor space – plant up a little pack of seeds or some herbs and grow them in a pot or window box instead.
Water Play
Kids love playing with different materials … mud, slime, sand… and water! And, whilst it can get a little messy when they’re given an opportunity to play with water in the house, it’s always lots of fun when you’re out of doors! Water Play is key to a child’s development, helping to form a basic understanding of science fundamentals including cause and effect, density (i.e. floating and sinking), and more. And there are a lot of fun water play activities that families can try out from the comfort of their garden space! There are fun water play toys, of course, like the sets from AquaPlay (check them out here). But families can also easily set up their own activities. For a few fun ideas, read our “Water play activities that you can set up at home feature”.
Stone Painting
This is a creative activity that families can enjoy together. It gets everyone outdoors, and parents needn’t worry that end up with paint through the carpets! All you need are some normal paints, paint brushes and the kids can find their own stones!
Teddy Bears Picnic
Who could resist a teddy bears picnic? This activity has all the ingredients of a fun afternoon… cuddly soft toy buddies, food, and fresh air!
Nature Sketching
Another fun way to immerse children in nature is by whisking them into the garden to draw or paint natural items or landscapes. Of course, you could always create a collage, too – or even create paints prints of the different items you find outdoors (e.g. feathers, leaves, and more!).
What activities do you and your family enjoy doing in the? Let us know on our Facebook/Twitter pages!
